Reading Programs Perth Families Can Trust

Choosing reading programs can feel overwhelming. So I’ve listed the reading programs Perth families ask me about most. I recommend each one as part of a holistic individualised plan, never as a one-size-fits-all fix.

Every program here is evidence-based and follows a structured literacy approach. So what your child practises at home matches what we do in our 1:1 sessions.

How I choose reading programs

Firstly, every program must follow structured synthetic phonics and be backed by evidence. Next, it must be practical for busy families to use at home. Finally, I only recommend established, registered businesses.

As a result, you can feel confident that each program supports the work we do together with your child. It also means your child hears the same language and strategies at home and in our sessions.

Nessy Reading and Spelling

Nessy Reading and Spelling online program

Nessy is an online structured literacy program for children aged 6 to 11. It was developed at the Bristol Dyslexia Centre and teaches reading and spelling through games and short videos.

The Dyslexia-SPELD Foundation (DSF) recommends Nessy as a high-quality, evidence-based program. It works well as independent practice between our sessions and aligns with the spelling rules we teach.

Toe by Toe

Toe by Toe is a structured, phonics-based reading program for struggling readers. It builds decoding skills in small, clear steps. Children stop guessing and start working words out. When used consistently, parents notice confidence in decoding within weeks of using the program.

I recommend it with the endorsement of Toe by Toe Ltd.

Clever Eli Handwriting Books

Clever Eli Handwriting books Perth Sensory Learning Services

Handwriting, reading and spelling work together. Clever Eli’s grooved books help children form letters correctly and build muscle memory at home.

I stock the Victorian Modern Cursive set, the style many WA schools teach and I recommend this product with the endorsement of Clever Eli Pty Ltd.

So which program suits your child?

Every child’s needs are different. I’ll recommend the right mix after assessing your child’s reading, spelling and handwriting at their initial session with me.
